The Feast of Mary, Mother of God

Scripture Readings:      Numbers 6: 22-27       Galatians 4: 4-7       Luke 2: 16-21

Recently, I came across a list of New Year’s Resolutions that Pope Francis has suggested:

  •  Don’t Gossip
  •  Finish your meals
  •  Make time for others
  •  Choose the more humble purchase
  •  Meet the poor in the flesh
  •  Stop judging others
  •  Befriend those who disagree
  •  Make commitments, such as marriage
  •  Make it a habit to ask the Lord
  •  Be happy

On this Feast of Mary, the Mother of God, the life of Mary encourages us to

+ Make our faith real…

+ Reach out to those who are hurting…

+ Say “yes” to her Son’s command to love one another as he loved us.

Might there be a New Year’s Resolution or commitment in the words of Pope Francis and the life of Mary?

As we begin this New Year of opportunity and grace; may the ancient blessing of peace from the Book of Numbers, be a reminder that God still continues to smile down upon us. May we continue to share the goodness of God with one another,  with all peoples today and everyday.

May your New Year be happy and through each of us, our families, and our Parish… may the lives of others be filled with God’s life, love, mercy and peace this New Year.
